A worshiper may combine two prayers in several cases:^[2]

• It is prescribed for the pilgrim to combine the noon and afternoon prayers in Arafat with an earlier collection, so he prays the noon and afternoon prayer at the beginning of the noon time, and it is prescribed to combine the sunset and dinner after the ifaadah from Arafat with a delayed collection. Something between them… until he came to Muzdalifah, where he prayed Maghrib and Isha with one adhan and two iqaamahs, and he did not say anything between them. narrated by Muslim .
• When traveling: It is prescribed to join the noon and afternoon prayers, and between the sunset and the evening prayers, to combine the earlier or the later gathering. ﷺ In hadiths, including what was narrated by Muslim on the authority of Muadh, may God be pleased with him, he said: We went out with the Prophet ﷺ During the Battle of Tabuk, he used to pray Zuhr and Asr together, and Maghrib and Isha together.
• In sickness: it is permissible to combine noon, afternoon, sunset, and dinner with the Malikis and Hanbalis, and a group of Shafi’i jurists went to it. Al-Nawawi said: This aspect is very strong, and they argued that the combination is only for an excuse, and illness is an excuse, and they made it difficult to travel with a combination of hardship, but rather the hardship in singling out prayers for the sick is more severe. Among them is on the traveler, but the Malikis believe that the permissible combination in sickness is the gathering of the preceding only, while the Hanafis, and it is the well-known Shafi’i school of thought, went that it is not permissible to combine the disease because it is not proven from the Prophet ﷺ Despite his many diseases.
• In rain that wet clothes and cold: The majority of Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali jurists went to the permissibility of combining Maghrib and Isha because of that, due to the hadith of Ibn Abbas in the Two Sahihs: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, prayed in Medina at noon and afternoon together, and Maghrib and dinner together, and Muslim added in a narration: without Fear and travel.
• Concerning fear: The Hanbalis and some of the Shafi’is, and it is a narration according to the Malikis, are of the view that it is permissible to combine due to fear between noon and afternoon, and between sunset and dinner at an early and late time, and they quoted as evidence the previous hadith of Ibn Abbas: without fear or travel, and they said that this indicates that combining for fear is more important, and most of the Shafi’is went and he There is a narration according to the Malikis that it is not permissible to join prayers for fear, because prayer has known times according to the Shari’ah, so it does not depart from it except with evidence.
• With regard to the excuse: the majority of jurists are of the view that it is not permissible to join together for other than the aforementioned excuses, because the news of the times are established by the Lawgiver, and it is not permissible to contradict them except with special evidence.
• The Captive: It was mentioned in the book Al-Muwatta, “Malik bin Anas was asked about the prayer of the prisoner, and he said it is like the prayer of the resident.” The jailers prevented him from drinking water.^[3]
