But if we want to calculate the population density according to the land area only, it is as follows: the land area is 150 million square kilometers (58 million square miles), and accordingly, the human population density will rise to 50 people per square kilometer (129 people per square mile), this calculation includes All areas of the continents and islands, including Antarctica, but if Antarctica is excluded, the population density will rise to 55 people per square kilometer (more than 142 people per square mile), and given that more than half of the land area consists of Rugged areas that are difficult for human settlement, such as deserts and high mountains, and most human settlements tend to congregate around seaports and fresh water sources. This diversity in itself does not give any meaningful measurement of population density.

The area is calculated by any of the cadastral units such as square kilometer, square mile, acre, hectare, dunam, and so on. The world’s population is distributed unevenly on the surface of the earth, so while there are densely populated areas, there are also other areas with less population.

• Water: The presence of water is a vital necessity for man, so if it is available, he can establish a prosperous life, and if it is less widespread, he searches for it until he finds it and multiplies around it. This is in addition to the fact that waterways are an important means of linkage and communication between human groups.
• Soil and geological composition: it plays a role in the region in population density and distribution. In regions where fertile volcanic soils are available, such as “Java (island), Japan and Sicily”, the population is crowded despite the presence of dangerous volcanoes.

Also, there are flood soils and loess soils over which the population crowds as long as water is available, while the population density decreases in the areas of limestone rocks in which water leaks and also decreases in desert soils.

• Transportation: One of the results of the progress of the means of transportation was that communication between human groups became easier, which facilitated the spread of the population over larger areas of the globe when the means of transportation were able to reach and reconstruct them. And the progress of land transportation helped the birth of a modern civilization

Arithmetic density is the most common method for measuring population density in the world, but several other methods have been developed aiming to provide greater accuracy considerations in population density in a particular area:

1. Arithmetic density = population / land area.
2. Economic density = population / total income.
3. Physiological density = population / agricultural land area.
4. Philosophical density = population / arable land area.
5. Agricultural density = rural population / agricultural land area.
6. Residential Density = Number of people living in an urban area / Residential land area.
7. Urban density = the number of people who live in an urban area / land area in an urban area.
8. Degree of overcrowding = population / number of residential rooms in the country.
